Turnaround
Turnaround is a programme for young people that have been affected by domestic abuse. A young person may think that adults don’t understand what it’s like to be at home when there are arguments and sometimes fighting. It may be that they feel unable to talk to friends or other adults about how difficult it can get at times.
When things get difficult this can impact on schoolwork, friendships and
family relationships. They may feel caught in the middle, or that things are
starting to go wrong and not know how to make it better.
Turnaround aims to provide a safe supportive place where the can come and
talk. They may feel angry, confused and upset, or they may even think it’s their
fault. What they have experienced is not their fault and Turnaround can help them share experiences and explore their feelings with others that have been in
a similar situation.
Turnaround runs for approx 6-8 sessions. Each session lasts for 1.5 hours.
A range of different activities are used to help explore feelings and to
understand that experiences not only impact on how a young person feels but also
how they act.
Coming into a new group can be scary at first. Turnaround staff are happy to
spend time with children and young people on a 1-1 basis so that they can share their fears and can answer any questions they may have.
